In addition to her qualifications as a pastry chef, she’s a culinary instructor for Chefs Inc. She also teaches cooking and baking for the City of Arcadia to kids ages 8 to 12 years old. She's also worked as a personal chef. Our latest addition to our pastry team, ladies and gentlemen, please join Mänis in welcoming Cherylynn Barber, our new pastry chef!
Cheryl comes to Mäni's from Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena. She was the pastry/baker chef assistant at the Hotel Sofitel on Beverly Boulevard, where she prepared and plated desserts and pastries for weddings, banquets and business meetings. One of the areas of focus that interests Cheryl is custom cake decorating, and specifically wedding cake designing and decorating.
Cheryl's talents in the wedding arena have brought her into some high profile circles. (time to name drop... ) She worked with Spago's Catering on Gwen Stefani's wedding in 2002. In 2003 she was Sous Chef for the Pacific Design Center Benefit for Cystic Fibrosis, preparing and plating the menu for over 3,000 patrons.
Cheryl, as pastry chef, joins forces with Hector Garcia and Salvador Beltran. Together the new team has over 35 years experience and promises to take Mäni's to even greater heights than before.
Some of you are already aware that we not only bake some very tasty beautiful cakes, but also make wedding cakes, and are available to work with you on creating almost any custom cake you can imagine.
Mäni's has created a huge variety of made-to-order specialty cakes including many with Disney characters, cakes that look like states, tennis courts, teddy bears, records, dinosaur scenes, space ships, pyramids, holiday themes, and when a "Weird Al" Yankovic record went platinum, Mäni's was hired to create a cake with the album cover on top.
Creating specialty products to fill unusual requests has been a part of Mänis since the beginning; you might say it's in our blood.
In our early days we got a lot of attention after People published an article telling the world of our involvement in the Danny DeVito film Other People's Money. Mr. DeVitos character had to eat a lot of donuts and Danny didn't want to eat all that bad food! Mäni's was contacted and asked to come up with a healthy alternative... and so the "faux nut" was born.
Today we're still at it; creating healthier versions of classic recipes. And our motto "Good food that's good for you" expresses our uncompromising commitment to provide wholesome food made from high-quality ingredients.
Throughout the month of August we'll be talking about our custom cakes and wedding cakes as well as some of the new ideas and products that our pastry team is coming up with. Don't be shocked if, in the future, you see some changes through the windows of our cake studio. We're coming up with all sorts of surprises in our quest to always better ourselves... and we look forward to, and welcome any input from you!

I'm so excited to hear this, I was just telling my fiance that I wanted my wedding cake to be from your bakery... It's not going to be for at least one year though, I hope she's still around!

No sugar desserts are amazing and Mani's are by far the best I have tasted, the flavors are richer and more satisfying. I feel great eating them and was thrilled when I found your bakery a year ago...oh Joy! being a newcomer to LA. I have turned countless friends into Mani's fans and it still is the best place for me to eat. Plz don't ever close!
